Rain causes gridlock

Dramatic thunderstorms caused havoc in Bedfordshire over the weekend when a fortnight's rain fell in just two days, Dunstable Today reports. 17.6mm of rain on Friday evening, followed by another 16.3mm during Saturday night's spectacular storm.
At Luton Airport, fire crews had to pump out an underpass that was flooded, leading to gridlock around the terminal. And at the Luton & Dunstable Hospital, extra staff were needed to help cope with patients when water flooded into the A&E unit.
