easyJet passengers up 15.9%; load factor down 0.4%

easyJet passengers were up 15.9% in May, but its load factor dropped by 0.4 percentage points. This compares to passengers up 22% and a stable load factor (at 80%) at budget rival Ryanair.
easyJet carried 3.878m passengers in May, up 15.9% on the 3.345m carried in May of last year (Ryanair had 5.06m). However its load factor dropped to 83.2% from 83.6%.
In the 12 months to the end of May the number of passengers rose 15.2% to 40.6m from 35.2m in the12 months to May 2007 (Ryanair carried 52.5m). The rolling 12-month load factor also fell, to 83.2%, from 84% (Ryanair's was 81%).
The higher passenger numbers reflect the expansion of easyJet's route network and the acquisition of GB Airways on January 31. No figured were provided for the split between organic and acquired growth.
