easyJet carried 7.6% fewer passengers in April compared to last year after a volcanic ash cloud swept over Europe, leading to a 6 day shutdown of airspace that left passengers stranded and aircraft grounded. However, its load factor was up 1.1 percentage points to 85.2%.
Passenger numbers totalled 3,490,599 in April, down from 3,776,582 a year earlier. Prior to the disruption easyJet had expected to carry around 4.3 million passengers, up 14% on the previous year.
In the year to the end of April easyJet carried 46,936,188 passengers, up 5.6% on the previous 12 months, with an average load factor up 1.2 percentage points to 86.5%.
