easyJet boss to leave

easyJet chief executive Andy Harrison is to leave next June. In a statement, the budget airline said that Mr Harrison had indicated his desire to leave in order to seek new challenges, but did not say what he planned to do next, prompting speculation that he is leaving without lining up a new role.
The announcement means that five of the airline's senior management team have left over the last year, after the board faced fierce criticism from founder and 26.8% stakeholder Stelios Haji-Iannou over plans to continue to expand during the current recession. easyJet has 109 Airbus planes on order for delivery by 2012, a 50% increase in its fleet size assuming it does not sell any of its current planes.
The airline also announced that Sir Michael Rake will take over from Sir David Michels as the group's chairman with effect from January, when Sir David will resume the role of Senior Independent Director. Sir Michael joined the airline's board in June as Deputy Chairman and Senior Independent Director.
The airline is still looking for a chief financial officer after Jeff Carr resigned in May. A spokesman said that the board would make an announcement of appointments to both of the roles ‘in due course.’ easyJet said it continues to trade in line with the comments made at its recent results announcement.
