easyJet takes delivery of first CFM engine powered Airbus
12.06.08
easyJet celebrated delivery of the airline’s first A319 aircraft powered by CFM56-5B Tech Insertion engines yesterday. The delivery is part of the airline’s aim of becoming one of the world’s most environmentally-efficient carriers. The new engines reduce NOx (mono-nitrogen oxides) emissions by 25% and also offer considerable progress in terms of CO2 emissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs, it said in a statement.
CFM56 engines are produced by CFM International, a 50/50 joint venture between Snecma (SAFRAN Group) and General Electric Company of the US. easyJet has been a CFM operator since 1995. It made one of the largest ever single aircraft orders when it selected the CFM56-5B to power 120 Airbus A319 aircraft.
