easyJet to offer allocated seats?
15.11.11
easyJet is set to follow in the footsteps of rival Ryanair to launch a reserved-seating trial in a revenue-raising drive that will appeal to the business sector it is increasingly targeting, the Wall Street Journal reports. The move could be announced today, when easyJet reports its full-year results.
Ryanair has been trialing a system where passengers pay £10 per seat / flight to reserve certain seats on a small number of flights. This has proved popular with families who want to sit together and with business passengers who are keen to exit the plane first, despite the extra cost. Last week Ryanair said it was doubling its trial to 80 routes, and it could be rolled out to all 1500 routes if the further trial proves successful.
easyJet has introduced flexi-fares to capture more of the lucrative business travel market. Like Ryanair, it also offers priority boarding for a fee and is keen to increase its business passengers, from which it generates a 10%-20% fare premium compared with leisure passengers.
