Luton top for growth
15.12.08
Luton Airport is the number one UK hub for passenger growth, according to new figures released by the CAA. It had the largest increase in passengers of any UK airport between January - September, with an additional 487,311, 6.5% up on the previous year.
The increase is greater than the total population of Bedfordshire, the county within which Luton Airport is situated, or the population of Malta. The growth has been fuelled by the launch of new routes to Cyprus, Italy, Poland and Jersey as well as airlines adding flights to existing destinations.
Glyn Jones, Luton Airport's Managing Director, said: ‘We have achieved this growth due to our excellent transport links to London, the South East and the Midlands as well as having one of the best catchment areas in the UK. This has been an encouraging year for us and shows just how attractive the airport is to airlines and travellers alike.’
