easyJet has asked Luton council to put pressure on Luton Airport operator Albertis to help make the airport, which the council owns and leases to the Spanish operator, more competitive. The budget airline's chief executive, Andy Harrison, has written to Luton Borough Council urging it to help reduce costs.
Details of the letter were released as more than 100 easyJet cabin crew marched and protested in Luton yesterday over planned cuts at the airport. They released 565 balloons, one for each job at risk, and presented a letter to the Council. However, a spokesman for the council said it had does not have the power to intervene in negotiations between easyJet and the airport operator.
