easyJet claims UK's biggest airline crown
17.03.10
easyJet has announced that statistics published by the CAA this week prove it is the UK's biggest airline. Last year more than 28.1 million passengers flew with easyJet through UK airports, which was ahead of Ryanair (28 million) and BA (26.2 million when transfer passengers are removed from its figures). BMI and Flybe each had just less than 7 million UK passengers.
The Luton Airport based low-cost airline says its success is based on offering the lowest fares to the most well-located airports. In just fifteen years easyJet has developed from a small two-plane operation to flying out of 16 airports in the UK. Chief executive Andy Harrison said: ‘easyJet is now the UK's national carrier. Travellers have evidently voted with their feet, boarding easyJet's aircraft more than every other airline.’
