easyJet ad slams council over airport fees row
25.09.09
easyJet has launched an advertising campaign highlighting its row with the local Council over Luton Airport charges. The ‘head in the sand’ campaign criticises Luton Borough Council for failing to prevent increasing charges at the airport it owns but does not operate (Spain's Albertis operate the airport on a long term lease from the Council).
A spokesman for the airline said: ‘The Council buries its head in the sand while hundreds of jobs are at stake at Luton Airport, which is owned by the Council. Their ‘Nothing to do with me’ attitude is completely at odds with the worries of voters and businesses in Luton. easyJet wants to create jobs in Luton, but we need our elected representatives to stand up to Albertis, who have made the airport uncompetitive.’
A spokesman for the Council previously said that it cannot become involved in the dispute between the budget airline and the airport operator.
