easyJet olive branch to online travel agents
27.06.08
easyJet is to offer an olive branch to online travel agents (OTAs) with news that it is considering a system to allow an official connection to its flight inventory, travolution.com reports.
The airline recently sent letters to a number of intermediaries and OTAs – including Expedia – ordering them to cease screen scraping fares from its website. Expedia was named and shamed by easyJet about its use of screen scraping earlier this week.
However it has since emerged that easyJet is looking into how OTAs can gain access to fares and availability with a direct connection. It is understood this would be a new agreement outside of the deals recently signed between a number of technology providers including Multicom and Comtec for leisure agents and the Amadeus and Galileo GDSs for business intermediaries.
An easyJet spokesperson told travolution: ‘With regards to whether Expedia would need to sign up with one of these [technology providers], then not necessarily because we're currently reviewing how a range of online travel agencies would access our inventory going forward.’
