Flight emergency at Luton Airport
27.08.09
Firefighters were called to Luton Airport early yesterday morning after reports of smoke in a plane coming in to land caused a full scale emergency, Luton Today reports. The plane eventually landed normally.
Three fire engines, an aerial platform, a foam unit, a water carrier and an emergency response unit carrying special equipment were called to the airport shortly after 07:30 after a 'category A' emergency was declared. A fire engine was also sent to junction 10 of the M1 motorway in case it needed to be closed due to the proximity of the airport runway.
The Boeing 737 landed safely and Luton Airport fire service inspected the aircraft while Bedfordshire and Luton Fire services were on standby. No-one was hurt and the passengers left the plane normally.
