Silverjet boss upbeat despite rival's failure

The boss of Luton Airport based all business class airline Silverjet has rejected speculation that the airline is on the verge of collapse. The Financial Times reported on Monday that Silverjet was in ‘urgent negotiations with potential investors in the search for a rescue takeover deal' after Eos, the second of its two major rivals, folded over the weekend.
However, although Lawrence Hunt, the founder and chief executive of Silverjet, conceded that 'things are very tough and a lot more challenging than six months ago,' he said 'we are not going bust.'
Referring to the FT story, he said: ‘I do not know where that has come from. We are almost at break even. We raised more money in December and we are operating 3 aircraft at almost 70% capacity. We now have a clear run at the market.'
The demise of Eos would cut the business-only capacity to New York by 250 seats a day, Mr Hunt said. He also revealled that bookings at silverjet were 117% up on their all-time daily record yesterday.
